Energy Storage Project

Energy Storage Project

Key Activities of the Energy Storage Project

The Energy Storage Project aims to support Kosovo’s energy security by using battery storage systems to provide reserves, improving system availability, and reducing the cost of securing adequate electricity for Kosovo. Energy Storage Project will provide the flexibility necessary for Kosovo to integrate a broader range of energy sources into the national grid.

Key Activities of the Energy Storage Project

Building a Energy Future

Frequency Restoration Response Activity

Aims to support Transmission System and Market Operator in Kosovo (KOSTT) to own and operate approximately 45 megawatts (MW) (or 90 MWh) of energy reserves to cost-effectively smooth out imbalances in the electricity grid, ensuring the security of the interconnected power system while enabling the integration of electricity generated from different energy sources.

Multi-Functional Energy Storage Activity

Aims to support the creation of a public entity that will own and operate approximately 125 MW (or 250MWh) of battery and other electricity storage systems. The new public entity will be designed to provide services such as frequency restoration, energy arbitrage (buying electricity when prices are low and using it when prices are high), or other storage-related functions. With its battery energy storage capabilities, the activity will help integrate various energy sources into Kosovo’s energy system and strengthen the country’s energy security.

Energy Policy Support Activity.

Aims to strengthen the technical and administrative capacity of Kosovo’s energy regulators. It also supports the policy and institutional reforms required to create a stable and effective framework for energy storage operations in Kosovo.
